The Conquest of Death

1 Corinthians 15.26

According to the Bible, death is every person’s greatest enemy, and is personified as a seemingly invincible ruler over us. But Christ is the opposite of death, and here the help He offers us is compared with the hostile activities of death. To whom will we yield?

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. (1 Corinthians 15:22-26)

The deeper things of life are so easily crowded out today. Here at the Metropolitan Tabernacle we cater for the needs of the soul.

Permit me, as a pastor for many years, to plead with you not to let the ultimate meaning and purpose of life pass you by. True fulfilment and happiness depends on knowing who we are, and knowing the Lord, our Creator. Don’t let yourself be swept away, programmed and ruled by the shallow things of materialism and hedonism. We need God and one day we must give account to Him.
