King David tells of a time in his life when riches, fame and moral liberty to do as he liked seemed superior to walking with God and eternal life. But suddenly, overcome by shame he saw the hollowness of the godless life and prayed for pardon and a new life.

'For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.'

'O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.'

'Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.'

'Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.'
