The Gospel of John has been called by many the gospel of signposts: it indicates, it points to the Saviour. Now the Apostle John who wrote this gospel (as many of us would know) is one of the closest disciples to the Saviour, and he claims three times in his own words (or by his own designation) that the Lord Jesus loved him. I’m mentioning these things so you can see this is a serious man.

Now he knew the Lord Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry – he was one of the earliest disciples called by the Lord Jesus Christ, but he also knew Him through different, special occasions: he was with the Lord Jesus Christ at the Transfiguration, when the Lord Jesus took three of his disciples and manifested himself, just a tiny glance, a glimpse
of his glory, and displaying before them not only his perfect humanity but also his divinity.
