The Certainty of Salvation

1 Timothy 1.15

‘This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.’

Sermon details

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Now the expression ‘this is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation’ with some nuances is mentioned by Paul five times in his pastoral letters. And speaking about pastoral letters this is first Timothy, second Timothy and Titus so in those three letters the expression ‘this is a faithful saying’ appears five times. But as you can see this is a saving confession. Are you saved? Do you know to be a Christian? Just the name ‘Christian’ means that the person is saved according to the Bible. Are you saved? This is a saving confession, it’s solemn confession, spiritual confession.

Now the confession tells us everything you need to know to be saved. Every word is important in this confession, everything you need to know – so you don’t have to go anywhere, it’s all here. Are you seeking after the Lord? Are you praying to the Lord to save you? This is your warrant – take it to the Lord.
