Why Believing is Essential

Mark 5.36

Why do Christ and numerous Bible passages insist on believing as the only way to approach God and experience conversion to Him? Why not actions or works or ceremonies? Here is what is unique and vital about believing, and what one must believe.

While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. (Mark 5:35-36)

The deeper things of life are so easily crowded out today. Here at the Metropolitan Tabernacle we cater for the needs of the soul.

Permit me, as a pastor for many years, to plead with you not to let the ultimate meaning and purpose of life pass you by. True fulfilment and happiness depends on knowing who we are, and knowing the Lord, our Creator. Don’t let yourself be swept away, programmed and ruled by the shallow things of materialism and hedonism. We need God and one day we must give account to Him.
