The Dawn of Electricity – Michael Faraday

Faraday had been brought up to believe that the human race, though capable of many good things, was basically corrupt and sinful. He accepted the explanation of this given in the Bible, that the human race had rebelled against its Maker, and become cut off from Him. He believed that people could only be reconciled to God by seeking His forgiveness, and by trusting in the death of Christ Who, on the cross, paid the penalty of sin on behalf of all those who love Him. Faraday also believed in the necessity of a personal, life changing conversion. These beliefs had been his faith through youth, but by the age of twenty-two he was suffering many doubts. As he came under the influence of Sir Humphrey Davy, these doubts gave way to open disbelief. Surely, he thought, his mentor was living evidence that a man could be good and great without believing in Christ?
